Why Not? Marc Strong Selected as a Telly Awards Judging Council Member

It started with a simple question: Why not?

Fifteen years ago, that question carried real weight for Marc Strong. At the time, he was working as an intelligence analyst, trained to distill complex information into clear, strategic insights. It was meaningful work. Predictable. Secure.

But it wasn’t the whole story.

Creativity kept pressing in. Film classes turned into late nights experimenting with animation. Side projects grew into a deeper conviction that visual storytelling could make complicated ideas clearer — and more human.

Choosing that path wasn’t easy. Following your passion rarely comes with guarantees. There’s risk. There’s uncertainty. There’s the quiet fear that maybe it won’t work.

But Marc leaned into the question anyway.

Why not follow your passion? Why not tell stories that matter? Why not live your dreams?

In 2011, that question became the catalyst behind Wienot Films.

A Full-Circle Moment at the Telly Awards

Fifteen years later, that risk has come full circle.

Marc Strong has been selected to serve as a Judging Council Member for the Telly Awards, one of the most respected honors in global video and television storytelling.

For someone who once wondered whether starting an animation studio was too big a leap, helping evaluate the cutting edge of video and television is a meaningful milestone.

Founded in 1979, The Telly Awards recognize excellence in video and television across all screens. Each year, thousands of entries are submitted from around the world, representing advertising agencies, production companies, broadcasters, digital platforms, and independent creators. The Judging Council is composed of industry leaders tasked with evaluating the most innovative, creative, and technically accomplished work being produced today.

“It’s an incredible honor to serve as a judge for the Telly Awards,” said Strong. “The level of craft and innovation in our industry continues to rise every year. I’m excited to collaborate with the Telly Awards and help recognize the creators who are pushing video and animation forward in meaningful ways.”

Why This Matters for Animation and Explainer Videos

Animation and explainer videos have evolved dramatically over the past decade. What was once considered a niche format has become one of the most powerful tools organizations use to clarify complex ideas, influence behavior, and communicate at scale.

But as the medium has grown, so have expectations.

Great animation isn’t just visually polished. Great explainer videos aren’t simply simplified presentations. They are strategic storytelling tools built on clarity, intentional design, and emotional intelligence.

At Wienot Films, that philosophy has guided work for organizations such as Sesame Street, Gatorade, BlackRock, Mastercard, and Stanford. Whether breaking down financial insights, public health initiatives, or emerging technologies, the goal has remained consistent: transform complexity into stories that are clear, concise, and engaging.

Serving on the Telly Awards Judging Council offers a front-row seat to where our industry is heading — and reinforces a commitment to continually raising the bar in animation and visual storytelling.

Still Asking the Same Question

The original question hasn’t gone away.

Why not follow your passion? Why not take the risk? Why not tell stories that truly make an impact?

Fifteen years ago, those questions led to the founding of Wienot Films. Today, they continue to shape the way we approach animation, explainer videos, and creative partnership.

Sometimes the biggest leaps begin with two simple words.
